Free Comic Book Day spotlights an art form

Free Comic Book Day is an event for comic book lovers and causal pop culture fans across the United States. where comic shops offer a free series of selected comics. The event takes place on the first Saturday of every May.

Stores across the United States saw their profits increase as a result of the event, but more importantly, they saw a surge in interest and appreciation for comic books from collectors to regular shoppers. El Dorado’s own comic book store, Gabe’s Cave, took the event national and expanded it with several other great events for its customers.

Most of the free comics offered to comic book buyers and fans are previews of comic book series that individuals can potentially subscribe to. “I believe since 2005 every year they’ve had a free comic day across the country. So we’ve been there every year; it’s just one of the biggest comic days in the world. history of local comic shops. I mean, it’s one of the biggest days every year,” he said.

Not only did Gabe’s Cave have free comics to give away, but they also offered other promotions, including meeting some of the most talented people in the comics industry. On May 7, Gabe’s Cave had a meet and greet session with professional comic book artist Tone Rodriguez and professional comic book inker Jeremy Clark, who volunteered their time to sign autographs, take photos and create work for the store.

Rodriguez is best known for his pencil, ink and Bongo Comics work. His work in Bongo Comics extends to many different “The Simpsons” works, including major comic lines, “The Simpsons Comics Presents: Bart Simpson”, https://www.eldoradonews.com/news/ 2022/may/15/Free-Bic-Book-Day-Highlights-Art-Form/”The Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror” and “Radioactive Man”. He has also worked for other comic companies, including Dark Horse Comics and Image Comics. The appearance of the two artists at Free Comic Day was publicized by the YouTube channel “Gabe’s Cave”, a talk show on comics and pop culture filmed in the middle of the store. The show is hosted by Gabe and his brother Darren Rosson and co-host Brandon Johnson and “Uncle Nasty.” Together, the show’s hosts talk about new weekly comic book releases and movies and TV shows for popular franchises like Marvel, DC and Star Wars. They even build Lego minifigures and sets and unbox minifigures and statues.

Free Comic Day and having two popular comic artists is just one example of the events organized by Gabe’s Cave. A few weeks ago, the outlet arranged a meet and greet with actor Lou Ferringo, who is best known for his role as the Hulk for five seasons of the ’80s CBS show.
