“For the Birds” at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden features more than 30 birdhouses by renowned artists, architects and designers

The Brooklyn Botanical Garden will kick off its garden-wide celebration For the birds on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Visitors will receive a Warby Parker “birdocular” gift, while supplies last, ages 12 and up.

Anchored in an exhibition of over 30 site-specific birdhouses created by leading artists, architects and designers and placed throughout the garden, For the birds invites visitors to reflect on the links between birds and plants, and on the urgent need to protect plant ecosystems.

The exhibit’s creative director, Randall Poster, an acclaimed film and television music supervisor, has developed a 20-album set of recordings slated for release this year titled “For the Birds: The Birdsong Project.” which is woven throughout For the birds at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden via listening stations and live performances.

For the Birds will be on view until October 23, 2022. All For the Birds programs are free with admission to the garden, unless otherwise specified as a paid event. For more information, visit bbg.org/forthebirds.

For the birds: the Birdsong project includes 174 original music tracks, over 70 poems and 20 original album covers by over 220 musical artists, actors, literary personalities and visual artists. Presenting sponsor Warby Parker supports both “The Birdsong Project” and For the birds at the BBG.

For the birds The opening celebration will take place on Saturday June 11 and will include a day of programs and performances in the garden, including:

  • Birds of prey workshop at the Jardin d’Eau
  • A chance to meet selected artists with their birdhouses around the garden
  • Participatory music and dance parade inspired by birds with Metropolis Ensemble
  • Bird puppet workshops for children at the Jardin de la Découverte
  • Mortal Beasts and Deities stilt walking bird
  • Taryn Simon: “Birds of the West Indies”
